Manchester United extend three players’ contracts

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed the club have extended the contracts of Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal Mejbri.

The trio were approaching the final six months of their deals but United triggered the one-year option in each contract to tie all of them to the club until 2025. The Manchester Evening News reported the contracts were due to be extended back in October.

The contracts of Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial have not been extended and the latter is expected to be released in the summer if he is not sold in the January transfer window.

Martial, 28, has only scored 18 goals for United in the last three-and-a-half years and he has spent the last three weeks on the sidelines as he has been unwell.

Varane, 30, has also been injury-prone during his two-and-a-half years with United and the club do not want him to remain on the same salary of around £375,000-a-week next season.

The former Real Madrid defender has started in four of the last five United games but is now free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs this month.
