Matt Le Tissier claims he fell out with Jamie Carragher in a HEATED phone call after row over spitting scandal following Sky Sports sacking: ‘I don’t care about you or your opinion’

Matt Le Tissier has claimed that he fell out with Jamie Carragher following a row over the latter’s suspension from Sky Sport.

Carragher’s future as a pundit was hanging by a thread back in 2018 when he was filmed spitting towards a car with a 14-year-old girl in the passenger seat – after the driver had mocked him following a Liverpool defeat.

Carragher, then 40, was clinging onto his role and suspended, but following a full and frank apology on Sky News in the immediate aftermath as well as sessions with renowned psychiatrist Steve Peters, the defender was reinstated to his role.

Le Tissier – who has come under fire in recent years over his controversial views and conspiracy theories – was sacked by Sky Sports in 2020 as the broadcaster re-shuffled their Soccer Saturday panel.

The former Southampton forward, however, didn’t take the decision lying down, and claimed on the World Class Stamp Podcast that he questioned the employment of Carragher in the aftermath – which the ex-Liverpool man took issue with.

He said that Carragher called him for bringing up his spitting incident from 2018 after he was sacked by Sky

‘I would say Gary,’ Le Tissier said when asked whether he prefers Carragher or fellow Sky man Gary Neville. ‘Jamie isn’t my favourite person in the world.

‘I upset him apparently. He didn’t like it, he rang me up last summer. He had the right hump. I found it quite funny.

‘He was a bit upset. Talking about when I got sacked at Sky, and I asked them if it was anything to do with my social media post when they sacked me, because they didn’t say specifically that it was. Their answer was that we do have to take into consideration the reputation of our company.

‘You didn’t seem to bothered about the reputation of your company when you re-employed Jamie Carragher after he spat at that young girl.

‘Jamie got a bit upset that I brought that up again. He got my number off Phil Thompson and rang me up.

”Tiss, it’s Carra. Not happy with you, bang out of order to bring out that on the podcast’. I went, do you not think you brought that on yourself a little bit? Because that was probably the biggest bit about all this, when you actually did do that.

”Yeah but you shouldn’t be bringing it up again’.’

Le Tissier has clashed with a number of high-profile names on social media for his bold views that have increased since he left Sky.

He claimed that he thinks he blocked Carragher following more words from the now-45-year-old.

‘I was asked a question and I told the truth,’ Le Tissier continued. ‘You’re the one that did what you did and you have to live with the consequences of that for the rest of your life.

‘He started having a go again. “Jamie, I’m 54, I don’t care about you or your opinion. I’m fine about all that”.’

Le Tissier gained traction during Covid as he questioned vaccines and shared a number of conspiracy theories around the virus – later believing his social media posts resulted in his sacking from Sky.

‘There are too many coincidences for this not to be something a little bit below the belt here, there’s something going on here that’s not quite right and that’s where it all started for me with questioning the narrative and probably ended up with me losing my job at Sky,’ he said last year.

He was also heavily criticised last year after appearing to suggest that the media have lied about the unfolding horrors during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which have seen thousands of people killed and millions become refugees.

As a result, Le Tissier quit as an ambassador at Southampton football club but stopped short of apologising for spreading conspiracy theories about Russia’s massacre of civilians in Bucha, Ukraine.

Among the other theories that Le Tissier has staged are stories around 9/11, that PCR tests were a ‘fraud’ and governments inteference during lockdown was ‘an injustice’.

In an interview with The Times, Le Tissier said: ‘A couple of years ago I felt like something wasn’t right. People were interfering with my life who shouldn’t have been – mainly the Government and scientists.

‘I felt a real sense of injustice and when I feel a sense of injustice I can’t keep my mouth shut. I have to speak up.’
