Cameron Carter-Vickers admits what Celtic fans knew already

After another disappointing defeat, Celtic now have some very important games coming up. They need some leaders to step up and help secure wins in those matches. In the boardroom, in the dugout and most certainly on the pitch. Do they have the right people to put their hands up and take responsibility?

Captain Callum McGregor showed his disappointment at the Hearts loss after the game. He collected the players together on the pitch for what looked like some bitter truths. He has also called for more quality to be added in the January transfer window, certainly a leader’s move in a time of need.

Another leader has now added his voice to the situation. You don’t always hear a lot from Cameron Carter-Vickers but this is certainly the time for him to make his thoughts known.

Carter-Vickers has highlighted what he sees as a problem for the Hoops. He has pointed out how defensive blocks used by certain teams have proven difficult for Celtic to break down. To some extent, that’s pretty obvious. It is something the Hoops have had to face over the years. More interesting is the American’s comments on leadership and taking responsibility.

Carter-Vickers has stressed on the need for leaders in the dressing room to step up. As reported by The Herald, he said:

“There are a few boys in there who feel that way as well.

“It’s no use having just Cal. He’s our captain and shows that responsibility but he needs help.

“There are a few boys in the changing room who are willing to take that responsibility, willing to try to lead the team, and that’s something we need to do in the coming weeks.”

More experienced Celtic players like Greg Taylor and James Forrest may have experience on their side but don’t strike you as natural leaders like McGregor, Carter-Vickers and Joe Hart. Maybe that’s another key aspect to look for when it comes to potential January signings.

No doubt Brendan Rodgers will want to deliver his own messages and direction. But he too will need help and backing. Let’s hope the dressing room leaders can have a positive impact on the others and help get the campaign back on track before it is too late.
