Chef Simon Wood exposes ‘fake reviews’ in ‘hate campaign’ against acclaimed Manchester restaurant

Masterchef winner Simon Wood has exposed a series of ‘fake reviews’ posted in a social media ‘hate campaign’ against his acclaimed Manchester restaurant WOOD.

The top chef, who opened his fine dining restaurant on Manchester’s First Street back in 2017, took to social media site X on Sunday (December 17) with a video of a number of one-star Google reviews that appeared to have been written about his establishment.

Along with a clip captioned “Fake Google Reviews”, he wrote: “Don’t believe all the reviews you read folks. Big love”. The post quickly amassed more than 30,000 views and a flurry of positive responses from people who enjoyed dining at WOOD.

Responding to the recent one-star reviews on Google, WOOD wrote: “This is a fake review as part of an online Twitter hate campaign. Please ignore. It has been reported.”

The outburst followed a photo shared by former Masterchef winner Simon on December 15 that showed an email from a customer who asked for a ‘complimentary dessert’ for themselves and their partner for their anniversary, to which Simon wrote: “Unbelievable….Free food for celebrations, that’s why we’re here after all…”

Responding to the latest post, a number of customers replied with positive experiences at WOOD, as one person wrote: “Outrageous! I’ve just left a 5 star review following our excellent meal and service yesterday. We had the best afternoon.”
