Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden made a shock return to the dancefloor in tonight’s (December 16) grand final.
The professional dancer has been absent from the current series after being diagnosed with breast cancer, though she has made occasional returns to the studio.
Her return came full circle in the showpiece event, with the dancer taking part in the professionals’ routine at the beginning of the show, leading several fans to express their joy on social media.

“Amy Dowden, the woman that you are. I am sobbing,” wrote one fan on X. “Seeing her on stage, dancing with the other pro’s again was everything. one of the bravest, strongest, most beautiful human #Strictly #StrictlyFinal”
“That Amy Dowden reveal was a MOMENT #strictly” added another viewer, whilst one fan wrote: “Amy Dowden back on the Strictly dance floor. I’m Not Crying You’re Crying.” Another fan also expressed their happiness, writing: “Amy Dowden dancing in that opener. How bloody lovely. #Strictly”
It won’t be the last time that Amy is in Strictly studio this year, with the star confirming that she would return for the Christmas special, writing: “It’s one of my fav days of the year! @bbcstrictly Christmas special! Everyone looks amazing! It’s a 10 from me!!!”

Tonight’s grand final saw Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams compete for the Glitterball Trophy, with the trio being joined by their professional partners Dianne Buswell, Vito Coppola and Nikita Kuzmin respectively.
The proceedings see each couple perform three routines, with the Showdance coming in between the Judges’ Choice and the couple’s own personal pick. The four judges will score each dance, but the champion is solely determined by the public vote.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
