Man Utd’s funds damaged by European exit
Manchester United find themselves in further financial jeopardy after crashing out of Europe in humiliating fashion.
The Red Devils, who contended with Financial Fair Play rules during the summer transfer window, finished rock bottom of their Champions League group containing Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray. That means Erik ten Hag’s side won’t even be able to play Europa League football come February, marking the first time they’ve been completely out of Europe by then since 2015.
United’s dire 1-0 defeat to Bayern on Tuesday confirmed their exit, although a win wouldn’t have been enough anyway due to Copenhagen’s victory over Galatasaray. Now only playing domestically for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, Ten Hag and the club hierarchy – which is currently transitioning ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival as a 25 per cent shareholder – won’t be able to count on the added funds of post-Christmas European football, with the club’s debt recently surpassing the £1billion mark.

Davies in Bayern standoff amid Real Madrid interest
Bayern Munich are refusing to bend to Alphonso Davies’ contract demands following his unconvining performances this season.
Davies, 23, gave one of his better displays as he helped Bayern beat Manchester United 1-0 last night, and his representatives are currently in negotiations to extend his deal beyond 2025.
However, Sky Germany report that the Bundesliga champions are refusing to hand the Canadian left-back his desired annual salary worth between £8.6million and £11.1m.
Should the two parties fail to reach an agreement over the comings months, then Davies will be up for sale next summer, with Real Madrid known admirers and likely to make a bid.

Man Utd urged to sign Solanke
Manchester United have been recommended former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke to help solve their glaring goalscoring issue.
The Red Devils’ seven forwards have netted just four Premier League goals between them this season, with Marcus Rashford being the only member of Erik ten Hag’s attack to score twice. They blanked again on Saturday in a humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, during which Solanke, 26, terrorised Ten Hag’s back line and chipped in with his eighth league goal of the campaign.
The ex-Liverpool prospect only scored once in 27 appearances for United’s arch enemies following his £3million transfer from Chelsea in 2017. Solanke has now found his feet on the south coast after a difficult first couple of seasons and impressed so much this term that former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has suggested the Red Devils should make a bid in January.
