A lucky UK punter would become the country’s third highest-ever National Lottery winner if they scoop tonight’s £173m EuroMillions jackpot.
They would also become the seventh EuroMillions winner in the country this year – with the highest UK prize so far going to a ticket-holder who took home £111,709,000.
Their festive win, arriving just in time to help with the Christmas shopping, would come nearly 18 months after a UK ticket-holder won the biggest ever EuroMillions jackpot – scooping a whopping £195,707,000 prize.
They surpassed the UK’s previous record-winners, Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester, who revealed their identities after winning £184m on the EuroMillions in May 2022.
Tonight’s winner would also become nearly as wealthy as UK pop superstar Adele – who is reported to be worth around £174m.
They would not however have made it onto this year’s Sunday Times rich list – where the five families at the bottom of the pile each had £350m.
What could you buy with £173m?
A single UK winner tonight would comfortably make it through the cost of living crisis if they are sensible – and could even afford branded goods such as baked beans and baby formulas, which a watchdog has said have been unfairly overpriced.
They could also purchase a Gulfstream G550 private jet with plenty of millions to spare – with Business Jet Traveller reporting the planes cost around £38m.

A single UK winner could also have purchased Southampton FC, who were bought for £100m in January 2022 while they were still a Premier League side.
They could also purchase a Northrop and Johnson yacht for £107,226,467 and still have more than £60m to spare.
Winner set for ‘incredible Christmas’
Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at the National Lottery, said, “Friday’s jackpot is a staggering amount of money and one winner could be walking away with the lot – what a way to start December!
“A EuroMillions win as big as this one could make for an incredible Christmas this year, whether you decide to stay at home or jet off somewhere exotic. We always encourage new winners to take a break, even if it’s just for a few days, to let their life-changing win sink in. There’s plenty of time and money for bucket list trips.”
