Resident Evil 4 Coming to PlayStation VR2 Next Week

Resident Evil 4 is coming to PlayStation VR2 on December 8 as a free update to the base game, Sony has announced.

Revealed on the PlayStation Blog, a demo for the survival horror game will be available the same day, giving brave virtual adventurers a chance to try it before committing to the full purchase.

“Stepping into the shoes of United States agent Leon S. Kennedy in VR as he races to rescue the President’s daughter, you’ll experience an entirely new level of survival horror immersion,” the post reads. “The same development team who brought you the incredible full-length VR experiences of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil: Village have worked to make a truly immersive VR Mode using the latest technology.”

The entirety of Resident Evil 4 Remake will be playable in virtual reality, with every weapon making the jump too with “incredible detail” and “intuitive controls”. The PS VR2’s Sense controllers offer haptic feedback unique to each weapon too.

“Resident Evil 4 VR mode takes advantage of advanced technology and features of PlayStation VR2, combined with the experience our development team has gained from previous Resident Evil VR titles, to allow players to truly become Leon and use a variety of weapons with their own hands to take on enemies which feel like they are standing right in front of you,” said director Keisuke Yamakawa.

“This unique experience is only possible in VR, so with the free demo for all players and the DLC releasing for free for owners of the full game, anyone with a PlayStation VR2 can experience how VR deepens the survival horror. I hope you enjoy the thrills and scares of this game, in which survival is just the beginning of the nightmare.”

The base version of Resident Evil 4 Remake, which launched in March 2023 and quickly sold millions of copies, received a 10/10 from IGN. “The Resident Evil 4 remake is the series’ most relentlessly exciting adventure rebuilt, refined, and realised to the full extent of its enormous potential,” we said in our review.

Its VR mode was announced ahead of launch in February, and as mentioned, comes from the same pedigree as previous virtual reality Resident Evil games. IGN gave Resident Evil: Village, which is also available on PlayStation VR2, an 8/10 in our review. “Resident Evil Village VR is a thrilling way to experience an already great game from a brand new perspective,” we said.
