Today, outlet Vanity Fair dropped some new shots of Amazon Prime’s Fallout TV show, and while it’s nice to get another look at the upcoming adaptation, the news got us thinking about one thing in particular. Where is our next-gen upgrade for Fallout 4?
That’s right, if you cast your mind back to just over a year ago, Bethesda announced that Fallout 4 would be getting an upgrade for Xbox Series X|S. At the time, the team simply gave it a general ‘2023’ release window, but we’re almost into December here and we haven’t heard a peep on it recently. That begs the question, will it ultimately get delayed?
The aforementioned Fallout TV show from Amazon doesn’t launch until April next year, and we think that’s the perfect sort of time to drop this next-gen upgrade. Maybe in the run up to the show’s launch or even shortly after – we could definitely see Bethesda trying to capitalise on the Fallout hype with its next-gen port in early 2024.
Hopefully we do get confirmation on their timeline soon, but if you forgot about the upgrade announcement, here’s some info on what Bethesda is hoping to deliver with Fallout 4 next-gen:
“Prepare for the future: A next-gen update is coming to Fallout 4! Coming in 2023, this free update will be available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC systems, including performance mode features for high frame rates, quality features for 4K resolution gameplay, bug fixes and even bonus Creation Club content!”
We did think this might have arrived before Starfield, but clearly, the new IP was a huge focus for Bethesda and Microsoft in 2023. A huge chunk of the team is still working on Starfield right now, but we’d imagine there’s becoming a bit more wiggle room to get cracking on with Fallout 4 next-gen as we close out the year.
Having said all that, what do you think? Will Bethesda delay its Fallout 4 upgrade into 2024, or will they manage to squeeze it out at the end of this year?
