Kieran Trippier has left the England squad for a ‘personal matter’, Newcastle United have reported.
The England star is not injured, however, and he is expected to be ready to play against Chelsea next week, according to the Athletic.
It comes as England prepare to face North Macedonia in their UEFA Euro Qualifier on Monday.
The Three Lions defeated Malta 2-0 on Friday night thanks to goals from Harry Kane and an own goal from Pepe.
England had already qualified for next year’s finals in Germany and victory over Malta ensured they will win Group C.
News that Trippier is not injured will be welcomed by Eddie Howe whose Newcastle side are currently going through an injury crisis at the moment.
For their last Premier League game against Bournemouth, the Magpies had 11 first-team players unavailable due to injury and suspension.
During that match, Fabian Schar and Sean Longstaff played on through injuries while Miguel Almiron was forced off with a hamstring issue.
Howe will hope some of these injured players will return for their huge match against Chelsea coming up.
Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will return after the international break at least, providing he doesn’t pick up any issues while on international duty with Brazil.
But it is not looking good for Newcastle who, after Chelsea, travel mid-week to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. They will then play Man United in the Premier League.
