A spokesperson from the force said there’s no threat to the wider community and an investigation is ongoing. Pictures from the scene show a police cordon is in place around some flats on St Oswald Street, with an officer stood outside the front door.
A police forensics van arrived at the scene shortly after 9pm with an officer seen going inside the building. It’s understood cars were unable to move down St Oswald Street when the incident first happened due to emergency service vehicles taking over the road.
The North West Ambulance Service was in attendance at the scene.
