2 Corona del Mar homes linked to ‘Rocky and Bullwinkle’ creator seek $15M – Orange County Register

Are you looking to capitalize on the short-term vacation rental market? A hillside Corona del Mar property with two oceanfront homes tied to the late TV cartoon creator Jay Ward of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame is up for grabs.

With the upper house on Ocean Boulevard and the other on private, gated Breakers Drive below at beach-level, this combined six-bedroom, 4,305-square-foot offering with four bathrooms has an asking price of $15 million.

According to the listing, each home carries a “rare” nightly rental designation for use as an Airbnb or VRBO.

“I think there’s a way to capture the history of this property and make it the famous home that it should be,” said co-listing agent George Charles Hanold, the founder and CEO of Newport Beach-based Times Real Estate. “But it’s up to the new owner to make it a themed stay.”

Hanold estimated each home could fetch $1,000 a night.

Ward, who died in 1989 at age 69, built the Ocean Boulevard home in 1965. The Orange County Register previously reported that his wife, Ramona, built the Breakers Drive home in 2009. She died in 2015 at 95.

County documents show the property last sold for $5.8 million in February 2016.

The older home has approximately 1,755 square feet of living space with some updates. But for the most part, it maintains its original character.

Features include stained glass panels, walls of glass, and a towering brick fireplace in the great room that partly opens to a two-story-high tongue and grove ceiling with exposed beams. The living room has direct access to an expansive deck for entertaining.

“It’s a smaller home, but it feels grand with its spectacular ceilings and ocean views from every vantage point of the property,” Hanold said. “You could see the mouth to the harbor and watch all the action.”

A staircase runs along the property connecting the two houses.
