Sticking the landing can be quite hard when it comes to video games. Because it usually takes years to finish development, there can be many hardships along the way, and even the greatest title might end up with a mediocre or straight-up terrible final act.

It might sound surprising that a game with a genuinely brilliant beginning and an equally captivating middle act could somehow botch its greatness in the last part. After Ethan leaves the house, the game still has an entire second half of the story to go through. However, this is where the quality of the narrative and its horror factor deteriorate quite rapidly. Since all the major plot twists have already been revealed in the first half, the game has very little to surprise you with anymore. Plus, the nerve-racking, claustrophobic feeling of the house is completely lost in the mostly empty areas, like the ship level.

It’s a clear case of developers using all of their ideas in the beginning and ending up with nothing to put in later.
